When I book a room I usually checkHotwire.com , Travelocity and if I can't find what I am looking for there, some of the other consolidators.
While you cannot choose the hotel brand with hotwire, they will tell you the hotel brand by rating. Then you can check with Travelocity and see were the hotel is if that is really important to you. By checking between the two sites I was able to figure out who the hotel was 75% of the time.
Often when I am traveling I will use the public transit system instead of renting a car. By using a combination of Hotwire.com and Travelocity, I can figure out were the hotwire hotels are and if they are convenient to transit.
The only time I could not find something with Travelocity or Hotwire.com was a recent trip to Lewiston, Idaho and I book through LastMinuteTravel.com there.
